Black Foxxes entertained a packed out Southampton’s Joiners last Thursday (5th April) as Emily Isherwood and Bloody Knees joined them.
Emily Isherwood certainly warmed up the crowd as she brought her full band with her.
The artist had elements of London Grammar and has great stage presence with her guitar and her voice was incredible. Emily certainly wouldn’t look out of place in the charts or sound out of place on BBC Radio One.
There was an indie vibe to her set yet Emily provided some powerful vocals also that gave you goosebumps. Emily played the likes of Conversation and like the first two it was really easy listening. On the night, she also played her debut single Calibrate which was a real treat for fans and certainly set the theme for the rest of her set. Emily has a bright future ahead and I am sure this is just the start of something special.
Up next was Bloody Knees and they were electric from the start. The lights were amazing and the crowd started to get busy.
Their third song on the night I Want It All, they toned it down slightly for the start, then the chorus had a real powerful kick to it with plenty of riffs and bass.
Next song was Daydream, as the band wanted the crowd to dance as they provided an almost indie rock vibe but heavier. There were no mosh pits which was refreshingly good as it had a chilled vibe. The band’s penultimate song was Not Done which again was a solid addition and they finished on Maybe It’s Easy, the title track of latest EP. Bloody Knees thanked fans for watching them early which was a nice touch. It was reported that band’s tour van was broken into the next day in London and lost everything which is a real shame as these guys were some of the nicest people I’ve met while reviewing gigs. We wish Bloody Knees all the best in getting their possessions back.
Before Black Foxxes’ set we managed to catch up with drummer Ant Thornton as he talked about the gig, latest music and more!
Last was Black Foxxes who proved why they were ready to headline a tour from the start with amazing energy. Fresh from releases their latest album REIðI, lead singer Mark Holley provided some show as drummer Ant and bassist Tristen Jane all helped towards a fantastic set.
They started with the brilliant Breathe which was followed by Maple Summer and I’m Not Well. The band then played two tracks from their latest album Manic in Me and SÆLA which had a great response from the crowd. The band created an amazing sweaty atmosphere in the tiny Southampton venue as they played Oh, It Had To Be You and River afterward. The packed out crowd really showed their support for these lads as Black Foxxes knew exactly what they were doing as they all gave 110%. The Big WIld, Take Me Home and Joy all followed which left for two extra tracks as an encore. They finished on Husk and Pines which was a perfect way to finish a fantastic night of great talent.
