As the opening notes to ‘Mara’ swirl into shape, you know something strange is about to aurally unfold, It does with organ rupturing style and panache. The Swedish five-piece pull the pink fleshy skin away to reveal a deeply dark albeit satisfying album of atmospheric slowly smoked Doom/Stoner Rock. Opener ‘Mara’ crunches into Sabbath life before ‘Return To No Return’ smothers any musical light with a bruising backbone of bass and reverb. The female Ozzy-ish vocals compliment the low, low noises emanating from shuddering speakers. ‘Roda Rummet’ has hints of traditional Metal which help keep the musical scales precariously balanced. A motoring ‘Oken’ spits out black arid diesel riffs leaving industrial black residue on virgin iced Scandinavian roads while ‘Under En Svart Himmel’ has a military beat that seeps into the crevices between of genres pulled apart by titles, brackets and faux fashion. ‘Falsarium’ gloomily meanders along before the epic ten-minute track ‘Alone’ concludes this delightfully dark and intricate release.
