Steel city trio Awooga release their atmospheric full-length debut ‘Conduit’. Opener ‘Temporal’ slips into the nocturnal Doom arena with it’s slowly flickering formulaic sound. The song opens the gates to a plethora of genres to set up a temporary camp on Awooga’s patio. ‘Tabula Rasa’ clears the foggy psyche overload while wiping traces of Grunge era tears from the crucified Cobain’s cheek. Next up is the brooding ‘Waterhole’ which is a close to a semi-commercial Metal/Rock anthem Awooga get, its a deeply satisfying album twist. ‘Blue Rose’ slowly thuds and grinds the gears of the dark messiah motor while ‘Bandit’ has a death cult Goth-tinged intro which gives way to the band’s hammer hits wood vibratory sound. ‘Witness’ clocks in at an impressive eleven-plus minute of stop-start, stream to river flow. Last cut ‘Otherside’ has an eclectic ethereal energy that teases a release that never arrives. An album for those who want to dig a little deeper, get me a shovel.
