Mumbai, India based alternative rock singer / songwriter Nitish Pires has released the official music video for the single It’s My Way, off of the new LP, Am I Evil.
In May 2014 Pires took a well-earned break from music to travel the world to discover inspirations that would all accumulate into his latest work, Am I Evil. The album was released on February 18th and followed the release of the first single, Cold, back in December.
Beginning his musical journey back in 1999 with the formation of his Rock band Nakshatra, releasing one album – “Gulfam” – entirely penned by Pires, and released on Universal Music. In 2007 he had his first stab at a solo career, creating two albums named “Sarhadein” and “Chauraha”, the latter released under the self-titled band name “De Nitish Pires Band”. In addition he has composed numerous tracks for television adverts across India for the companies Vodafone, Nokia and Fila and has even composed an entire score for the feature film Soch Lo.
Pires has been no stranger to travelling, dubbed ‘the revolutionary roadie’ by the Mumbai Mirror and proclaimed as the first Indian to tour to promote his music by The Times India when touring through 25 cities in his country to attract attention to his album Chauraha. His none stop work at this time earned his album a nomination for Best Indian Rock Album at the prestigious G.I.M.A awards. Pires followed this up with another Pan-India bike riding tour, covering 3500 Kilometres, spreading his message; “You are free, if you choose to be.” Pires’ 4 year backpacking adventure, from 2014, ended with a collection of 200 songs recorded in places ranging from dense jungles to public transport such as the metro. He used his mobile recorder to get his artistic ideas down immediately, and whilst throughout this journey he whittled his catalogue down to 11 tracks that conveyed the same message, albeit in different ways, to put on his recently released album, Am I Evil.
Upon returning to his home town in Goa, Pires set about recording his songs properly using the juxtaposition of his laptop and native instruments to create a unique sound. His inspirations from Rock legends of old, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath combined with Pires’ driven and tenacious nature and his DIY style – using pillows and duvets to change his bed room into a suitable recording room – gives the album a down-to-Earth and honest background with a rock atmosphere, akin to Arcade Fire, Nickelback and recent Red Hot Chili Peppers.
