The Dub Righters Head Out On UK Tour In Support Of New Record ‘True Sound Killaz’

London-reggae punks, The Dub Righters, hit the road this March in support of their new record, True Sound Killaz, which is set for release on 9th March 2018 through Plasterer Records (see below for full list of dates).

‘We’re super excited to be hitting the road,’ says vocalist Lawrence Harrington ‘It’s going to be ace to catch up with some old friends, and of course, make some new friends too, and most of all, share these new tunes to new audiences across the UK.’

True Sound Killaz features 7 tracks of hybrid punk rock, reggae and dub that the band have become renowned for in the underground DIY scene in London. The new record follows on from 2015’s self-titled EP, continuing to draw influence from classic reggae, gravel-voiced punk rock and that traditional 2-tone sound.

‘The main theme throughout the record is about growing up in London as a punk,’ continues Harrington ‘Dealing with the law changes on squatting, and sitting in the park in Holloway with a boombox, whilst the sun is shining and sticking with mates whilst all trying to deal with real life.’

True Sound Killaz was recorded in late 2016 at DSI studios in Tottenham, London by Tom Vergez.

Having formed in late 2013, the band settled on their line up following their first gig at The Birds Nest in Deptford. Shortly before doors opened, the bandrealised that their then-bassist wasn’t going to show, so instead of wasting a trip and disappointing the crowd, the band asked Ryan Conroy of Skub Zero, who was also playing that night, to jam on the bass. It all clicked into place and the line-up has remained the same since.

‘We regularly get compared to Sublime’ says Harrington ‘I think it’s only because we play reggae as a three piece though…it’s definitely not the worst comparison. We are all totally part of the church of Sublime. Bradley was the don.’

Paying praise to their scene, The Dub Righters draw influence from their contemporaries, whilst mixing it up with an injection of golden-age hip-hop.

‘Inner Terrestrials, AOS3, Headjam and P.A.I.N are all big influences on us. We’ve always been in to MF Doom and Biggie too and we’re all crazy into all the irie shit.’

The Dub Righters have previously shared the stage with New Town Kings and The Filaments as well as Inner Terrestrials, Pain and AOS3 as well as supporting and playing a number of benefits for causes such as The Hunt Saboteurs, Pride Punx, Antifa, mental health services and the squatting and anarchist scene across Europe.

The band pride themselves on their stance on being supportive of punk rock positivity, anti-fascism, anti-sexism, anti-homophobia, animal rights and refugee rights.

True Sound Killaz is available to pre-order through Plasterer Records.
