Album Review: Killcode – The Answer

Ten years on from their inception NYC rockers KILLCODE return with a brand new full-length release ‘The Answer’. The title track and opener ‘The Answer’ is head nodding fist in the air, dirty riff smothered old school Rock song and this refreshingly similar feel continues on lead single ‘Shot’. ‘Show Me’ speeds down the Metal highway with its sat-nav destined for the early Nineties with little or no diversions while ‘Bleed’ is a mix paced cut that treads water. The obligatory ballad is catered for with the box-ticking ‘Own It Now’ () which drifts into poison waters. The Metal order is restored with the Aussie headbanging riff of ‘Kickin Screamin’ which is an airbourne, shit-kicking high voltage Rock ‘N’ Roll cut.

‘Pick Your Side’ is followed by the slower paced southern flow of ‘The Haunting’ before the military beat of ‘Slave’ slams skulls with vicious precision. Final track ‘Put It Off’ goes all Country with harmonicas, acoustic guitars and eyes closed in remembrance dual campfire vocals, before some ill-advised mid-song semi-rap almost kills it. ‘The Answer’ is a damn decent Rock album and although the staple Rock/Metal sound has been splintered into a thousand genre semi-styles Killcode have stuck to the original (and best) formula and that’s cause for large Jack ‘N’ Coke at The Rainbow on Sunset. Cheers. Check out ‘Own It Now’ below!
