Live Review: Deaf Havana at Southampton’s Engine Rooms

Supported by Black Foxxes and Decade, Deaf Havana took their tour to a sold out Engine Rooms in Southampton last Friday. South West three-piece Black Foxxes totally ruled the stage as they managed to keep the packed out crowd entertained throughout with their killer tracks. Playing the likes of I’m Not Well and Husk, the trio proved that you don’t need a four musician and that you can create an epic atmosphere throughout the set and that is just what they done. Creeper’s lead singer Will Gould watched the set and had nothing but compliments as he watched on at a local venue of his.

Decade

Decade then took to the stage as the Bath based quintet certainly provided plenty of energy and put 110% into their set. With the likes of Brainfreeze and Turn of Yout TV, these guys were always going to get the crowd going before the main headliners Deaf Havana. Decade is certainly a band to watch with lead vocalist Alex Sears providing pitch perfect lyrics throughout. They provided a mixture of heavy as well sing along tracks which really put smiles on fan’s faces despite not being able to hardly move. Overall Decade will certainly be headline this venue one day – sooner rather than later.

Deaf Havana

Kings Lynn band Deaf Havana then arrived on the stage in front of a sold out Engine Rooms, something that you could see meant a lot to lead singer James Veck-Gilodi. They started off with Fever which is from their latest album All These Countless Nights. The edgy and easy to sing along to track really got the crowd going from the start and it was simply an example what there was to come throughout the set. The likes of Sling and Mildred were then performed next as Deaf Havana fans were certainly in their element despite not being able to move very much in the 800 capacity venue. A total of 16 songs were played on the night from Deaf Havana that include three encores much to the joy of fans. They played two reworked versions of songs titled Like a Ghost and Pensacole, 2013 which was a treat to hear what they sound like now. The set ended on Caro Padre before playing the three ending tracks which were Trigger, Boston Square and Anemophobia Part II. Overall the whole evening was insane and I could honestly recommend all three bands to anyone who has the love of alternative music.
