Reading trio Echoic have unleashed a cinematic and cathartic video for Bame. The track is taken from their Shadows of You EP, which was self-released in early September.
‘Blame is about somebody manipulating certain situations and projecting them on to someone who would rather be oblivious, and escape from it all. This is a song that was sitting on our laptop for a very long time, as we were waiting to come up with the perfect chorus. There were several options, but it wasn’t until this chorus cropped up that we knew it was the one and had to record it straight away. We wanted to highlight the darker meaning of the song through the video, whilst masking it with very pretty and light hearted surroundings, topped off with a happy ending’ – Kera Stewart, drums
Current EP Shadows of You is a continuation from 2014’s EP Testify, honing in on the concept of truth and how it affects identity. Sonically however, the record showcases a more fresh and modern soundscape, leaning heavier on electronic layers than before whilst retaining Echoic’s rock DNA.
Forming in 2013, the band were faced with the challenge of condensing their broad musical influences into one sound. Merging a rock backbone with soulful pop melodies and electronic scatters may be deemed as unorthodox to some, but Echoic make it work.
2014 saw the release of the band’s debut EP Testify, produced by Jason Wilson (You Me At Six, Don Broco, We Are The Ocean), which generated support from Radio 1, 6Music, Radio X and Kerrang! Radio. This triggered a plethora of live opportunities, including a European headline tour and US industry showcase slots.
Echoic recently wrapped up a UK headline tour, however are working on further tour dates for later this year. Watch this space for further announcements.
Capturing their evolution perfectly, Shadows of You is the sound of a band bursting with creativity, energy and ambition. Echoic are certainly ones to watch.
