Interview: Josh Savage talks latest music

With no management, publishing or record support to speak of, singer/songwriter Josh Savage has blazed a bright trail through the music industry, which should serve as a beacon to any musician looking to make a name for themselves in the unrecognisable 21st Century landscape. Over time the singer has built a loyal fanbase one living room at a time, and his sprawling career has seen him supporting acts as diverse as Razorlight, Rizzle Kicks, Reverend and the Makers, Roll Deep, and even some acts with names that don’t begin with ‘R’ such as Benjamin Francis Leftwich, John Hiatt, Catfish & The Bottlemen & Ward Thomas. And now with a new single out Ghosts and a Central America and Europe tour on the horizon, Savage is bigger than ever!

Check out Ghosts below!

We managed to catch up with Josh as he talks about new music, Blissfields and more!

So how was your set at Blissfields last weekend?

It’s always a pleasure playing Blissfields. It’s my 9th one and it feels like playing to a home crowd now.

Do you find it different playing in front of festival crowds than in live venues?

Yes, they’re generally more drunk and friendlier so they’re more interactive

How well has the single Ghosts gone down so far?

Pretty good. It’s been aired on BBC Introducing South and BBC Radio 6 and played on Spotify over 10,000 times without any PR and without being playlisted.

Can you tell us something about the single no one knows?

It came from an old song I don’t like that I wrote years ago. After hearing the guitar riff again in my voice memos, I rewrote it into what Ghosts sounds like today.

Will there be more music on its way this year?

No, I’m touring Central America and Europe the rest of this year. I have some exciting news for 2018 though!

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Bonobo. It’s a different style of music to what I do but I love to push myself outside my comfort zone and I love Bonobo’s music.

What do you get up to in your spare time while not recording?

Spare time, what’s that?
