EP Review: Vista – Long Live

VISTA’s sophomore release, the ‘Long Live’ E.P skips across the road from Rock to Electric (avenue), then returns home with a curiously victorious mix of substance and styles – By Guy Shankland. Lead single and E.P opener ‘Allegiance’ swirls like Faithless slapping Evanescence in sophisticated genre fight of  top trumping technique. ‘Inside Anxious’ then highlights Vista’s atmospheric Electronic edge, with intertwining male and female (and in parts distorted) vocals with an urgent Linkin backbone that continues on and throughout  ‘Hellbent’. ‘Dominance 2.0’ starts with a softer almost sexual sound before moving into middle of the road chart friendly territory, albeit with a lip biting fifty shades lyrical attitude. It’s pretty close to Pop infused Rock orgasm perfection and wouldn’t sound out of place on muliple mainstream or alternative radio play lists. Title track ‘Long Live’ again veers around the lanes on the genre highway, whereas ‘Part 111’ is seventy seconds of lounge lizard acoustic filler. Finally a punchy ‘Henchman’ completes this sublimely distorted cocktail of intriguingly refreshing reverberations. A winning formula.
