Interview: Night Owls talk latest music

Leeds-based trio Night recently returned with brand new single Out of My Head via Till Deaf Do us Party Records.

The band played a special single launch show last month in their home town of Leeds at Hyde Park Book Club, with support coming from La Bête Blooms and Treeboy & Arc.
Recorded at The Nave with Alex Greaves (Forever Cult), the new material examines different types of relationships: girlfriends, ex-girlfriends, best friends and even a boomerang.

After laying low for the past few months concentrating on writing a batch of new material and building on their fledgling success, the band are also pleased to reveal a new line-up after the addition of drummer Dom Reed who joins the fold as their sound and live show expands to grow comfortably into the potential that press and radio were

Following on from their well-received 2016 debut EP Informaldehyde, the new material builds handsomely on the fuzz-drenched, slacker-influenced grunge pop that saw them gain early press attention and festival slots last summer, pointing to an evolving and deepening new direction for the three piece. The band are set to play Leeds# Wharf Chambers on 13th August. You can check out the new single Out of my Head below!

We managed to catch up with the trio vocalist Will Pollard, guitarist Liam Waddell and drummer Dom Reed as they talk about the latest single and more!

Hey guys, how are you today?

I’ve been sat cuddling my dog all day today, it’s been great

How has the single Out of My Head gone down with fans so far?

I think people were surprised at how different this song is to our last EP but we’ve had some really nice reviews…just wait till they hear our black metal EP coming out next week.

Tell us something about the single that no one knows.

We did the artwork ourselves….that’s why it’s so bad…

How’s it been working with the team at Till Deaf Do Us Party Records?

Silky smooth baby, couldn’t live without ‘em.

You released Informaldehyde last year, is it time for a new EP/ Album soon?

Definitely not time for an album yet, we’ve got a lot of growing to do…but we have some stuff coming out very soon so people don’t get bored of us dicking around!

So you’ve been friends since secondary school, do you think the key to a good band is chemistry and friendship?

I don’t know who told you that we’re friends, but you’ve been sorely misinformed – the key to our band is pure hatred…we have a scrap at least twice a week.

How was your recent gig at Hyde Park Book Club? What other dates do you have this summer?

Hyde Park Book club is a lovely little venue and we had a great night with all our pals!
We’re playing 2 dates with our boys in LUMER on the 12th July in Sheffield at The Washington and then 13th July at Brudenell Social Club. We then have the 13th August with our mates Glass Mountain for their ‘Lazy Sunday Afternoon’ at Wharf Chambers in Leeds, then we’ve got some September dates coming at ya thick and fast real soon

What’s the alternative music scene like in Leeds at the moment?

Best bands, best city, nicest people.

Being from Leeds, what was it like to play Reading & Leeds last year?

An absolute dream come true, mainly because our tour manager cooked us tea every night, bless his soul xox

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Toto…because we don’t have enough sexy 80’s keyboard action in our band and I’m sick of it
