EP Review: Yorkshire Rats self titled EP

YORKSHIRE RATS return with a rapid quartet of top quality British Punk smothered in a distorted, alkaline sound and attitude – By Guy Shankland. Opener ‘Alone Together’ is a glorious cocktail of US nineties Punk, British spirit, drizzled with crunching guitars and topped off with ‘I don’t care, but I do care’ melancholic lyrical sentiment. It is also the bands latest single and is by far the strongest track on this impressive release. Second track of the four is the slightly slower paced but equally brutal ‘Where Do I Sign’ which draws out a, f*ck it lets do it continuous flow. ‘No Way Out’ follows the same heroic helplessness core mixed with a glorious drum and vocal chant friendly chorus. ‘Better Days Will Come’ keeps the “Is it really worth it” black cloud lyrics swirling round like a disheartened Punk piss storm. This E.P isn’t going to banish the lovesick or political blues but for those wanting an English slant on a bastardised American sound then this is for you. A pond crossing triumph.
