The Interrupters

The Interrupters are fresh from playing their European tour alongside Green Day as well their three headline gigs in Sheffield, Liverpool and London. The band also released their new album Say It Out Loud last year which has gone down a treat with fans.

Produced by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, Say It Out Loud captured the bands frenetic energy and revealed a whole new boldness to their songwriting. Undeniably fun but urgent in message, The Interrupters back their 2-Tone-tinged, guitar-fuelled yet melody-heavy sound with lyrics that confront everything from social control and self-empowerment to domestic violence and the media circus that surrounded the presidential election. In short, The Interrupters are a band to make you laugh, smile and dance but they’ll also make you think.

Since their formation in 2012, The Interrupters have forged a formidable bond that deeply informs their music.  The band consists of Aimee Interrupter – Vocals, Kevin Bivona – Guitar, Justin Bivona – Bass and Jesse Bivona – Drums. Check out Be My Side below!

We managed to catch up with guitarist Kevin as he talked about the latest tour, fans, funniest moment and more!

So you’ve been touring with Green Day, what has been your highlight so far?

The highlight for us has been playing our music for lots of people who have never heard of us before! Also, we get to watch Green Day every night and they put on the best show! It’s been such an unreal experience!

Was it a real honour to be told that you would be touring with Green Day?

We were all in shock when we were first offered the tour. Being the only other band on the bill is beyond an honour. It definitely inspired us to rise to the occasion and get our live show super tight and make a gigantic backdrop!

You also have three headline shows straight after, what venue are you most looking forward to playing?

London shows are always great, but we love all the academy venues as well!

How has the album Say It Out Loud gone since its release?

The reception has been overwhelmingly positive. It is always incredible to go play in a city for the first time since it came out and see and hear people singing along to the new ones!

How much does your fans mean to you guys?

Fans are everything. Without fans there is no show. When we aren’t on tour we all still go to shows all the time. My favourite thing about punk rock is that the people at the show are just as important as the band and there is no division between the two.

What has been your proudest moment to date?

Showing our family pictures of the crowds we are playing to on this tour was very special. They knew the shows were going to be big but when you see it for this first time it’s pretty insane.

What has been your funniest moment on tour?

Green Day came up and pranked us on stage during ‘Babylon’ at our London set. They were all dressed in costume, put tape over our mouths and blindfolded us. We didn’t know who was who until Billie Joe took off his mask at the end! It was a part of the song that had harmonies we were really focused on nailing but we couldn’t because we were all laughing!

So you have a lot of gigs coming up, do you have time to work on new music?

I certainly hope so! We always make time to write, and we go into the studio and make demos every chance we get!

If you could work with any artist or band on a song, who would it be and why?

Joan Jett because she is rock and roll royalty!
