Interview: Woke Up Waiting working on new music

After building a strong teenage fanbase on Twitter and YouTube, Woke Up Waitng wasted no time jumping into the writing and recording recording of their new EP. Better Off This Way.  Their first 6-track collection as a trio, is a fun set of youthful pop punk tracks, representing many different moods a teenager may experience through their navigation of adolescence. The combination of punky party anthems, guitar-driven ballads, and raw acoustic tracks successfully fuses together to create an adhesive, catchy EP. The band are currently working on new music and are thinking about releasing an acoustic EP this year.

We managed to catch up with Woke Up Waiting as they talked about their latest EP, new music, fans and more!

So how has the EP ‘Better Off This Way’ gone down with fans?

It has actually done really well, better than we expected. We thought that there would be some heavy favoritism towards some of the tracks but it’s a real even spread on what everyone’s favorite track is.

What is your favourite song from the release?

We honestly love all the songs that are on the EP, and it’s really hard to choose favorites. If we had to choose one, I think we could collectively agree that the favorite is “Voices”. It’s cool because that’s the one that we all really came together to write, and we all had a big say in how it was going to be structured, the lyrics, and the feel to it. It was also the last one we tracked for the EP so it was a really cool feeling when we finished the last take.

So having released your debut EP, are you looking to release a new one this year?

Haha we are hoping too, but knowing us it’ll be 6 months late (again). We are really hoping to release an acoustic EP sometime this year, along with a single or two and some covers. We aren’t too sure when we’re planning on releasing another EP, but we do have a bunch of songs in the works right now.

What’s the music scene like in Vancouver?

It’s not the best in the world, but the people in it are awesome. There’s a group of core people who have been in it for a long time, and we’re happy to consider them all friends. We have a bunch of buddies in local bands (Failing Street, After Our Juliet, Chase Your Words, and a bunch more) as well that are doing awesome things and on the rise.

Would you ever want to tour UK and Europe?

Absolutely. We’d love to get out there as soon as possible since a god chunk of our fans live there. If we ever have the finances or opportunity to go over there, we’d take it in a second.

So will there be a tour soon or any gigs lined up?

Not at the moment, but hopefully something in the spring or a bit earlier.

If you could work with any band or artist on a song, who would it be and why?

I think we’d like to work with All Time Low, since they were a huge inspiration to all of us. Alex Gaskarth is just an awesome songwriter, and the rest of the guys are super talented and seem like just good dudes.

What has been your proudest moment so far?

The release of the EP was a super proud moment, and just listening to it all the way through for the first time was super surreal. We did everything on our own for this EP (Production, writing, artwork, and promotion) and it was just really cool to see it all come together.

What has been your funniest moment so far?

I don’t trust like that, you got any skittles?

How much does your fans mean to you guys?

Absolutely everything. Without them we would not be doing this and we wouldn’t be the guys we are today. We owe everything to them and they have been nothing short of fantastic. We love em’.
