Interview: This Party

unnamed

Formed after a chance encounter at a Smiths tribute gig, Brighton-ers This Party fuse sharp basslines with an instant melody to produce their own brand of drenched guitar-fueled pop.

Produced by Junk Scientist (The Rakes, Larrikin Love), their debut single Movie Nights received a fantastic response being picked up by BBC Introducing and featured by Steve Lamacq, receiving several plays on his BBC 6 Music show throughout Autumn 2015.

Now the band have released a new song titled Money!

Check out Money below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest single, new EP, funniest moment and more!

How has the release of ‘Money’ gone?
Yeah really great. With each release we do we’re getting more support and momentum. I can’t wait for the next one.
Tell us a little bit about the single?
Money was written about an experience of a friend who got a high paid job in central London. While there he went on a series of dates and with whoever he met the conversation would always switch away to how much he made in a year. I liked hearing the ‘funny but sad’ anecdotes of his new found ‘cosmopolitan lifestyle’ and drew them as the basis for the song.
Will you guys being releasing an EP/Album soon?
We have plans to release an EP Spring next year. It’s all written and we’re in the studio next week.
Are you looking forward to your gig at Green Door Store next Tuesday?
Yeah absolutely. It’s our local and we’ve sort of grown playing there the last few years so it’s perfect for an end of year show.
Will you be touring at all next year?
We are planning a tour late 2017 but it’s in its early stages so fingers crossed.
If you could work with any artist on a new song, who would it be and why?
There are countless I could think of but I’d love to work with a girl singer, maybe like Gotye or The XX. I think there’s always place for a duet somewhere in the future.
What has been your funniest moment to date?
We’ve got a bad habit of doing versions of TV theme tunes in studio downtime for a joke. A while back we made this pretty weird version of the Dr Who theme. It was a pretty bad grunge/metal version. Anyway a few months later we heard it was being shared around on a Dr Who fan page. Turns out someone in the studio was a fan.

What has been your proudest moment to date?
Getting played by Steve Lamacq on 6music. We’re regular listeners so it was great to hear ourselves on the show.
What influences you to write music?
It started off as trying to make something we want to hear ourselves and its grown from there. Now it’s about the connection you make with other people with music, there just isn’t anything else like it.
