Clean Cut Kid have released their new EP We Use To Be In Love, today via Polydor Records. The quartet just finished their Reading & Leeds Festival performances this weekend and will be on tour throughout October. The new EP starts off brilliantly with the title song which got released last month and has since racked over 100,000 views on YouTube alone.
Front man Mike Halls has created an authentic indie voice for this song that works fantastically alongside the beautiful backing voice of Evelyn Halls. It creates a catchy vibe to the EP and really gives that feel of a almost indie pop element that the likes of The 1975 creates. A definite classic from the band that sure to continue to grow and has potential top a number of charts. Next up is Paper Heart that brings a touch of seriousness to the EP yet it with this is allows the track to be an emotional journey for the listener. Evelyn once again provides some awesome backing singing that makes the track more authentic. Guitarist Saul Godman then provides something special with a great little solo that runs throughout the rest of the track until it fades out into a more acoustic feel to it. The penultimate track, Hospital Lights from the four song EP, brings back a more indie feel to the EP and so far each and every song is different in their own ways. You can tell once again with this song, it just pours out the emotion from the band. The song then kicks in to what I think is more of the style to the title song. It allows Ross Higginson on drums to really show what he’s worth and he certainly adds a more rock element to the EP in general.
The last song which just happens to be the longest song of the four is titled Loud Places and automatically it has a lot more bass to it. Evelyn also gets to express her wonderful voice even more as she takes over for a while throughout the song. This is certainly more of catchy tune that again has potential to top any charts. Overall the EP is awesome, and shows just a snippet of what this awesome band can do.
EP Rating: 9/10
EP Highlight: The title song We Use To Be In Love has a lot of potential and has the elements of giving Clean Cut Kid the recognition they deserve.
