Stay Voiceless is a 3 piece alternative rock band from South Wales, mixing everything right with the 80’s punk scene and 90s alternative scene to fix everything wrong with the 00’s rock scene. The band released their debut single Comfortable in February 2016, and its 251 seconds of brutal self analysis and acceptance received the backing of BBC Radio Wales’ Adam Walton, describing the band as ‘a hot spear through the heart of mediocrity’.
The band continued to build momentum and wasted no time releasing follow up single Those kids have no idea whatsoever of what went on at Stalingrad, a song as complex as it’s title that shines light on the coalitions handling of the 2011 riots, alongside government failures to public services and British steel industry. You can listen the song below.
I managed to catch up with the band about their latest single, festivals, inspirations and more!
How has the release of ‘Those kids have no idea what whatsoever of what went on at Stalingrad?
Really well thanks. We were overwhelmed with the response and we’ve found some new fans since the release. Having Michael Sheen help give the release a push via Twitter after giving us permission to sample his words in the track was amazing too.
How was 2000 Trees? Would you like to perform there one day?
In a word, awesome. 2000 Trees is such a great festival. For every established headliner, there’s an underground act that could well become your new favourite band. We’d love to give it a shot. *hint hint nudge nudge organisers…*
What would you say to your fans that go to gigs and buy your music?
To quote a line from our second single, “tell your friends”. If you like what we do, tell a friend, bring them to a show. In a world where social media dominates the industry, you still can’t beat word of mouth to build a scene.
What music inspires you guys?
We all listen to such different music, but we find our common ground in punk rock. Take that out of the equation and you’re looking at anything from Dr Dre to Red Hot Chili Peppers via Manic Street Preachers.
Where would you like to see yourselves in 5 years time?
Hopefully still making music, touring, releasing records. So many great bands die a premature death as being in a band is so uneconomical. The hardest part is sustainability.
Are you looking to make new music this year?
We’re looking to make new music every week! We’re currently finalising tracks for a debut album and doing some pre-production demos to see which ones will make the cut. The plan is to release another single towards the end of the year before going in to record the album.
Have you got any tours planned for this year?
