Interview: TrueHeights talk upcoming charity single

On December 22nd, TrueHeights will be releasing an acoustic charity single produced by Connor Ball from The Vamps plus video cameos from members of The Smiths, Nothing But Thieves, Madina Lake, Dirty Thrills, Anavae, Bang Bang Romeo, Bloxx, I Divide, The Lottery Winners, Go Primitive among notable models and social media celebrities.

The donations developed by the single will be directly counted and given to the Bedfordshire & Northamptonshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, a charity very close to the band; especially Kris (Drummer). Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects your brain and spinal cord. In MS, the coating that protects your nerves (myelin) is damaged, and this causes a range of symptoms.

Once diagnosed, MS stays with you for life, but treatments and specialists can help you to manage the condition and its symptoms.

More than 100,000 people in the UK have MS. Symptoms usually start in your 20s and 30s and it affects almost three times as many women as men.

The band will also be releasing a vlog after the charity single release to give fans the opportunity to see the life of someone suffering from MS and the incredible efforts Bedfordshire & Northamptonshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre are making to make life with MS that bit easier.

The single and video highlights the connection, collaborative effort, support and understanding of the creative industries towards something as devastating as Multiple Sclerosis. Artwork of the single can be found below!

We managed to catch up with Kris as he talked about the upcoming single and more!

So how amazing is it that you got so many big names to perform this upcoming charity single of yours?

We are so humbled by the shear amount of support we have had on this Journey. It all started early this year when we managed to bring Conor Ball onto the production of the record. The band have grown very close to Conor and it was a great experience to write and record with such a talented dude. When came the time to reach out to celebrities and ask for their involvement the whole thing just snowballed. The Smiths, Nothing But thieves, Madina lake, they were all more than happy to help as well as a few of our favourite local bands such a Go Primitive and BLOXX. Its nice to see people who are so busy still have time to help a cause they believe in.

How much does the Bedfordshire & Northamptonshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre mean to you?

My Uncle is an absolute hero to me. He showed me all the great music i still listen too today such as Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, The Pixies. He really helped form me as the musician i am today then, Several years ago, My Uncle Kevin was diagnosed with primary progressive MS. It is the most aggressive Multiple sclerosis you can have and is very rare. Through the years i have watched my Uncle and his family struggle with this disease and seen my uncle deteriorate to the point where he can no longer stand or see some days. It breaks my heart and i just want to help in anyway i can. The Bedfordshire & Northamptonshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre Provided such incredible care and support for all types of MS patients, I knew that was the right place to raise money and help the largest amount of people possible.

What has been the best moment recording this single?

The best part for me was defiantly a few nights ago when I sent the video to my Uncle and his family. They were so pleased with the final result and it really made the whole thing worthwhile, Really put things in perspective. Reminded me that family really is everything.

How much does it mean to you guys knowing fans will buy this single and earn money for the charity?

It blows our minds every day that we have such loyal fans. Our music seems to connect with a lot of people and we don’t take that for granted. We appreciate every single person who supports us and this single is a great opportunity to do something greater than us.

How pumped are you for your upcoming gig at Leamington Spa’s Zephyr Lounge?

Home town shows are another beast all together, Its like that electric feeling in the air where you know its going to storm soon. Even a week before the show you can feel it. We are so pumped to play some songs off our new record, which is due for release next year. Needless to say you do not want to miss this one so go and get your tickets NOW!

Are you guys working on any new music for the new year?

January 5th. That’s all ill say.

If you could work with any band in the world on a new song, who would it be and why?

Zakk (Our singer) has always wanted a duet with Ellie Goulding! Thats not very rock and roll but i know he would love that. I think as a band we would like to work more with Conor on the production side of things and get a guest vocal out of Benji Webbe from Skindred.

What was the first gig you attended as a kid?

Funny you should ask that. It was actually my Uncle! He took me to see Dinosaur Jr in Northampton. It was a dirty grunge gig that ill never forget and their drummer “Murph” was an absolute tank.
