Interview: Roses and Revolutions talks latest single

Roses and Revolutions

Having signed to Nettwerk, Roses and Revolutions (comprised Alyssa Coco and Matt Merritt) travelled to Los Angeles to work with esteemed producer Mike Tuccillo on the new song, Moment, which stands as their first output ever produced by someone outside of the band.

From the slow-burning clip-clop of the backbeat and Merritt’s reverb-heavy guitar to Coco’s stunning piano chords and breathy vocals, the song builds at a slow, confident pace. As Coco’s voice soars during the chorus of ‘When it all falls down / You just gotta get back to the moment, where it all begins,’ it’s clear that the delicate dynamics of Roses & Revolutions are undeniable and point to a powerful new voice in today’s indie pop scene.

We managed to catch up with the duo as they talked about their latest release, new music and more!

So how has the release of ‘Moment’ gone down with fans initially?
The response has been awesome and really positive so far. This is our favorite song that we’ve done so far and we were super anxious to get it out to our fans and listeners!

Tell us a little bit about the song
“Moment” is a collection of stories and emotions that we were experiencing during the time we wrote it. The song is about remembering that moment that started everything. That time that you want to get back to, where everything was right and made sense.

How was it working with Mike Tuccillo in LA with the track?
He’s great! Producing the song alongside him was a breath of fresh air. It was fun, enlightening and inspiring.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
Oh man! That’s a great question and there are so many bands we could put for an answer. We’d probably say Coldplay, just because we love the and everything they do.

Will there be an album/EP releases this year?
Yes indeed there will be! And we’re super stoked to share this material with everyone.

What was the funniest moment while recording the new track?
When we both got in the tracking room of our studio together and had to rotate around a microphone doing stomps and claps. We’re so stupidly goofy together and can never be serious so we kept making each other laugh, and Matt was wearing giant old fashioned cowboy boots to get a stomp sound.

What has been your proudest moment to date as a band?
It’ll probably be this week… when our song “The Pines” hits one million streams on Spotify! We’re so grateful to everyone who has listened to and love the song.

So what is the relationship like between the two of you?
Funny, loving, trusting. We’re each others’ best friend… going through this journey together is nothing short of amazing. We also annoy the shit out of each other sometimes. 🙂

Who has a better sense of fashion between the two of you?
Matt. Definitely Matt. I (Alyssa) would permanently live in sweatpants and an oversized sweatshirt if I could.
