We managed to catch up with Rory he talked about the upcoming tour, new music, first ever gig he attended and more!
So you’re about to embark on the THE VO5 NME awards tour, how pumped are you for this?
I am so pumped, it’s such a great honour to be included and I am going to make the most of every minute.
What venue are you most looking forward to playing?
I’m really looking forward to London Roundhouse, it’s an iconic venue.
At just 17 years old, how proud are you to be playing alongside the likes of Cabbage and Blossoms?
I am so proud, they’re both great live bands and hopefully I can prove my position on the lineup alongside them.
What made you get into music in the first place?
Probably at first hearing music in the car and around the house, but I really got into music aged 10 when an incident left me housebound for the summer holidays. My parents bought me a guitar and I learnt how to play it copying what I saw on the music video channels on the television.
So you’re from Stockport, what is the general music scene like there?
There’s not so much of a ‘scene’ due to the lack of venues any Stockport bands tend to do the majority of their local gigs in Manchester. But Blossoms and Myself and a few others seem to be making a name for it.
What was your first ever gig you attended?
I’d be lying if I said I could remember… It was probably somebody playing at a wedding, my first experience of live music…sadly.
How was your show in Hull the other day at FRüIT?
It was very interesting, but I enjoyed it.
So you released a Christmas song late last year, did this go down well?
It went down ok, Radio 1 played it a few times – it was just a bit of fun really rather than a serious release.
So will there be any new music at all this year?
I released the ‘What Would Rory Wynne Do? – EP’ last Friday (24th Feb) and there will be a few more EP’s this year I think.
